The Beginning is a free platform that connects individuals and families affected by substance abuse with recovery centers that have real-time available beds. We believe that finding treatment should never be a barrier to getting help — when someone is ready to seek recovery, the path to a safe bed should be clear, fast, and compassionate.
Our app serves individuals struggling with addiction to alcohol, opioids, stimulants, and other substances, as well as the people who care about them. Whether you are searching for yourself, or a social worker, discharge planner, court officer, or loved one is searching on behalf of someone in crisis, our Good Samaritan flow makes it possible to request a connection on another person's behalf with referral notes. Users can build a profile with their insurance status, demographics, and treatment preferences to receive personalized matching with centers that meet their needs.
Recovery centers list their available beds, program types — including detox, inpatient, outpatient, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization, sober living, and medication-assisted treatment — along with specialties such as veterans, women, men, youth, and LGBTQ+ care. Faith-based programs receive free featured listings, and all other centers can subscribe to advertise their openings to a wider audience. We are currently piloting in Mobile, Alabama and the surrounding Gulf Coast region, with a roadmap to scale nationwide so that no one is turned away because they could not find an open bed.
